| AT WATKINSON, WE believe it is important to "make public" what we do here and why. A curriculum map which-graphically organizes the skills and content covered in each course, department, and grade level is a powerful tool. Students and their parents will be able to join us in more valuable ways if they know what is expected of them. Teachers can share ideas and find connections with colleagues while they help themselves plan and work more effectively. The map is not cast in stone. This document will be updated on a yearly basis in order to reflect our on-going work to keep our curriculum vibrant, current, and effective. Furthermore, it is important to realize that each teacher adjusts the curriculum as the year unfolds. When we recognize that a particular group of students would benefit from a new approach, a reordering of the lessons, or a different book, we must have the flexibility to change course. the map also may not adequately reflect aspects of our students lives that are just a way of life, like technology. With that in mind, enjoy browsing the map! Look for the connections between courses and the transitions from introductory to sophisticated skills.
