Student Honored at All-State Banquet

Watkinson School varsity girls soccer player, Lauren F. '10 of Glastonbury, was chosen as an All State Girls Soccer player by the Connecticut Girls Soccer Coaches Association and was honored this weekend at an All-State Banquet with other standouts in Connecticut.  This photo is of Lauren with her coach James Manning.

Rees Named CT Boys Soccer Coach of the Year

Watkinson School's Boys Soccer coach, Andy Rees of New Hartford, was named the Connecticut Boys Soccer Coach of the Year by the Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association. He will be honored at the National Soccer Coaches Association Convention in January in Philadelphia. Coach Rees has brought the Watkinson Rams to three Class D New England finals in the last three years and won back to back New England Championships last year and this year. Coach Rees finished the season with 105 career wins. Watkinson recognizes and commends him for his ability to mentor our young men and lead them to outstanding achievements.

Watkinson Senior Selected as All-American in Soccer

Watkinson boys soccer player Leon C. '10 of West Hartford was chosen by the National Soccer Coaches Association as a High School All-American. He was one of just two recipients of this award in the state of Connecticut. He will be honored at the National Soccer Coaches Association Convention in January in Philadelphia.

 

Carby scored 139 goals in his four years at Watkinson, leading the team to two back-to-back New England Prep School Class "D" Championships.

Lace 'em Up Alumni

As the Girls' and Boys' Varsity Basketball teams begin their formal practices this week, they look to the holiday weekend, Sat. 11/28, when we will host our annual Alumni Basketball games.  All alumni are welcome, no prior basketball experience necessary.  Come out and have fun against our current students.  The boys' team will play at 2:00 pm, followed by the girls' team at 4:00 pm.  Go Rams!

Rams Repeat as New England Champions!

The Watkinson Boys' Varsity Soccer team has successfully defended as New England Prep School Class "D" Tournament Champions.  The Rams defeated a fast and tenacious Rocky Hill School of East Greenwich, RI by a score of 3-1 today at Loomis Chaffee.  This marks the 4th New England Championship in Watkinson School history.  Coach Rees' squad ends the season at 17-1-2 nearly matching the perfect season of the 2008 squad.  The team accolades for the 2009 Rams are as follows:

Three for Three!

The Boys' Varsity Soccer team has survived and advanced to their 3rd straight New England Prep School Class "D" Championship game.  The #1 Rams defeated the #5 MacDuffie School of Springfield, MA by a score of 5-0 today in Hartford.  The Rams will play the #6 Rocky Hill School of East Greenwich, RI who defeated the #2 Lexington Christian Academy of Lexington, MA 3-2 today.  The game will be played at Loomis Chaffee School at 12:30 pm on Sunday 11/22.  Come out and support your Rams!

Congratulations Lady Rams!

On behalf of the all the supporters of Watkinson Athletics, we would like to thank and commend our Lady Rams on outstanding seasons.  Both Girls' Varsity Soccer as well as Varsity Volleyball lost in quarter final matchups of the New England Tournament today.  The short handed Lady Rams Soccer team fell to a tough and gritty Southfield School team 0-1.  While the Lady Rams Volleyball squad battled flat tires and a stacked Greens Farms Academy team, loosing their match 1-3.  Congratulations on hard fought battles and representing Watkinson with pride and grace.  Go Rams.

Rams Down Dexter!

The Boys' Varsity Soccer team defended their New England Championship today with a strong victory over a physical opponent in Dexter School.  Despite the back and forth battle, the Rams withstood the test, winning 5-3.  With the victory, the #1 Rams reach the semi-finals and face a strong #5 MacDuffie School of Springfield, MA who defeated a fellow HVAL team, #4 Christian Heritage in Trumbull today.  With a long and turbulent history against the Mustangs, the Rams look forward to the test and to reach their 3rd straight trip to the New England Tournament finals.  The semi-final round will be played at home on Saturday 11/21, at 1:00 pm.  Go Rams!
