  • Powell Receives National Prize

    Watkinson School is proud to announce Mary Hills Powell, Watkinson's upper school art teacher, has been awarded the Elizabeth Abernathy Hull Award. The Garden Club of America’s Elizabeth Abernathy Hull Award annually recognizes the outstanding achievements of individuals furthering the early environmental education for youth under 16 years of age. Powell was nominated for the award by the Connecticut Valley Garden Club for a student gardening program she oversees at Watkinson – the Varsity Gardeners.
  • Webb Speaks at Chicago Education Festival

    Ms. Webb selected to speak at the Chicago Education Festival in September.  The Chicago Education Festival is a day-long ideas conferences that celebrates thinking big in education.  The conference is designed around the premise that people are too often hemmed in by what is perceived to be implausible or outside of the "rules." For one day, attendees are encouraged to forget the rules and constraints within the field of education and dream about what might be possible. The festivall unites world class thought leaders and gives them the opportunity to connect, share, and inspire one-another to develop actionable and innovative change.  Ms. Webb presented on the idea of teaching and leading with compassion as a centerpiece to her work.

  • Christina Landini Chosen for National Writing Project


    Dedicated to improving writing and learning in schools across the country, the National Writing Project runs an intensive series of programs and initiatives. Anonymously nominated by a Watkinson peer, Chair of Upper School English Christina Landini (who teaches ninth-grade English, American Novel, and Contemporary Poetry) was chosen for a summer fellowship with the Central Connecticut branch of the NWP—a four-week institute to intensively study both writing and the teaching of writing.

  • Tom Gromak is Google Certified

    Tom Gromak, Watkinson School's Network and Database Administrator, was one of 50 teachers in the United States accepted to attend the prestigious Google Teachers Academy and is now a Google Certified Teacher.
