List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Is this considered a repeat of my senior year?

An Academy year is not a typical “P.G.” year and certainly not a repeat of a student’s senior year. A postgraduate year at the Academy at Watkinson is a unique experience. It is a genuine step forward, not only towards college readiness but also life readiness. The Academy helps you to develop essential skills that ultimately prepare the student for college and help you succeed both in and out of the classroom.
  • Will I be able to have a job while I attend the Academy at Watkinson?

This will depend on your class schedule (college and Watkinson), your possible internship involvement, and your on campus activities. You and your advisor can examine your schedule and determine if an off-campus job is in your best interest.
  • Do I have to be a Watkinson graduate to attend the Academy at Watkinson?

No. Recent high school graduates from all high schools are welcome to apply.
  • Is this a sports year?

No. While student-athletes are welcome to apply and use the Academy as a stepping-stone to enhance their academic and athletic abilities, the Academy at Watkinson focuses on the development of ALL students and their academic careers.
  • Why is going through a postgraduate year so important?

Not every student who graduates from high school is ready to thoughtfully and maturely take advantage of the independence and responsibility that colleges and universities offer and expect of them. With this in mind, The Academy’s program is designed to develop and enhance the skills necessary to thrive in college.
  • How will I know what classes to take?

You will be assigned an advisor who will work with you from beginning to end. Your advisor will review your transcript and Thumbprint in order to suggest classes that fit your interest and ensure an adequate and appropriate workload.
