  • 8th Grader Wins 2019 Creative Writing Contest

    The four winners from Watkinson's 2019 Creative Writing Contest received recognition and gifts on June 22th with a Katherine C. '23 as its overall winner. Administered by Cindy Z. '21 and creative writing teacher Mr. Apfelbaum, this contest received submissions from 6th-grade to PG students over the course of 2.5 months, with topics ranging from philosophical, to a symbolic discussion of judgment, to mental disorders, to dystopias and more. There will be at least one contest every year from now on; view the winning works here.

  • Proceeds from 7th Season of Freshly Squeezed Presented

    Watkinson School completed its seventh season of Freshly Squeezed with Colin McEnroe by presenting the program's community partners — Billings Forge, Hartford Stage, and the Mark Twain House and Museum — with checks from the proceeds to benefit their education departments. Watkinson's Head of School Teri Schrader presented the profits from the 2018-19 Freshly Squeezed season ($2,341 was gifted to each organization) at a breakfast on June 6th. Fiduciary Investment Advisors is the sole sponsor for Freshly Squeezed and has been since the program began in 2012. After seven years, Watkinson has gifted more than $10,000 to each of the three nonprofits who are community partners to Freshly Squeezed.
  • Watkinson Eighth Grader to Compete in World Tap Dance Championships

    Eighth grader Maizy S. '24 is one of the select dancers to be chosen to participate on the USA Tap Team. Maizy is a member of the USA Junior Formation Team consisting of 17 dancers in total. Their team had to audition to qualify for the World Championships through the International Dance Organization in April. Only 3 groups qualify for each division. This week, her team was notified that they did qualify and will be traveling to Riesa, Germany this November to compete at the World Tap Dance Championships representing the United States.

    Watkinson School congratulates all 42 students from the class of 2019 who will graduate on Friday, June 7th. We are proud of their accomplishments and celebrate them attending the following Colleges and Universities:
