In order for a school to compete as a team, there needs to be at least 5 people participating. Since cross country is an individual and team sport, they have been able to compete individually up until this season. Last week was the first time the girls cross country runners were able to compete all together, and they came in 2nd place for their first time scoring as a team for their meet at the HVAL Championships in Litchfield on Monday, November 5th. This was the fifth race this season. At the race, Nora J. was the first Watkinson finisher in 7th place, followed by Sylvia B. in 8th. Alison K., Cassie G., and Katherine G. rounded out the Watkinson 5 to earn 2nd place honors. For the boys’ team, which consists of 12 boys, Oliver A. finished in 4th place in the individual race with a personal record time of 17:57. The head coach, Allison Pistolessi (who has been head coach for two years and assistant coach for one) said, “They came together really well as a team, and have worked really hard all season. We are really proud of them!”
