by Alexa Miano, University of Hartford Communications Intern
On Saturday, November 10th, the Girls Varsity Soccer team won the HVAL Championships for the second consecutive year in a row against Christian Heritage. This is the fifth time Watkinson has played Christian Heritage in the championship game in the past 5 years; Christian Heritage winning the first three, and Watkinson winning in overtime for the last two. In overtime, they played golden goal, which means that the first team to score automatically wins. The final score was 4 to 3.
The goal scorers in the last game of the season were freshman Paw S. ’22, scoring 2 goals, and senior Nicole D. ’19 scoring the other two, one with the help from teammate Niyanna A. ’19 who passed her a beautiful assist. Ann Haggerty, the Watkinson’s girls soccer team coach of the past 4 years, said “During the championship game, the girls played with tremendous heart. The team was lead by our seniors, Niyanna and Nicole, who brought out the best in all of their teammates.” Overall, this has been a great season with the girls having won 9 games, tied in one, and lost 3. Congratulations, Lady Rams!
